Hans Vieden, AKA Bruiser, came to the United States as an exchange student from Germany. Bruiser was so big, everyone wanted him to play on the sports teams. He was always the biggest kid in school, and he knew people would talk about him and his size behind his back. He is suspicious of anyone and developed a very negative attitude. He is very shy and hardly ever says a word. But when he does, you don’t want to be anywhere near him! This negative attitude attracted his friendship with Stanky and his crew. Bruiser is now Stanky’s body guard, which helps Stanky do even more mean things to others. He’s Stanky’s wingman and helps him pull his meanest tricks. Bruiser doesn’t mind being one of Stanky’s Crew because he likes being a follower and not a leader. Bruiser doesn’t say much because of his strong German accent and spends most of his time in the gym pumping iron.

Sammy Sherman Smith, AKA Skids, is a recent edition to Stanky’s crew. He was born with an extremely rare condition that occurs in only one in every 20 million skunks making him appear all white with a black stripe, opposite the normal skunk coloring. His whole life he has been teased by a lot of the other skunks. As a result he developed a very negative attitude, and STINKN’ THINKIN’ is his dominate way of thinking. As soon as he moved to town, Stanky quickly recruited him to be part of the crew. Sammy was so excited to be accepted, he didn’t even care what his new friends were like. It seems that he will do anything to please Stanky because he wants to make sure that someone likes him.
Sammy’s nickname is Skids because of the black stripe down his back. All the other skunks called him “skid marks,” and it was shortened to “Skids.” He absolutely hates his nickname but has gotten used to it so it doesn’t bother him anymore. Well, it still bothers him, but he just keeps a lot of his STINKIN’ THINKIN’ to himself these days.
Tabitha Tessa Tomlinson, AKA Twiggy, is Sweetie’s best friend. She was quite a negative little stinker in her day. She lives with both her parents and is in the same class as Sweetie. She used to be so mean to Sweetie, and it goes to show you how special Sweetie is to forgive Twiggy for all the things she did to her. In fact, Twiggy was mean to everyone. She was mean because it was her way of dealing with being so skinny. Twiggy also used to talk all the time and only cared about herself. If someone else would try to speak, Twiggy would cut them off and tell a bigger story. It didn’t matter if it was true or not, she just wanted to impress others.
Her parents were quite poor and didn’t have much to give Twiggy. She was very tall but was really skinny. Her mom and dad were really big skunks and were so overweight they barely could fit through a door. Twiggy did not want to be that big, ever. When Sweetie met her, Twiggy would hardly eat anything for fear of being fat. Sweetie slowly started working with her, changing one negative belief at a time. Before long Twiggy changed her beliefs, which allowed her to eat as much food as she wanted. She learned she could eat as much as she wanted as long as it was good, healthy food. Twiggy did gain a little weight but is much healthier with the Sweetie’s help.
Roonicans Fiesty King, AKA Rooney, is a super sweet Carin Terrier. She was adopted at six weeks old and especially loves all children. She loves wandering off in the forest to play with the little stinkers. Her favorite sport is soccer, and, boy, she is a pro. She picked the sport up at an early age and will play with the soccer ball almost all day long. She will use her paws to kick the ball and can do all sorts of tricks with it using her nose. Her favorite soccer team is Manchester United and has a Man U team jersey she wears on game days. In fact she was named after the famous soccer player Wayne Rooney of Manchester United. I bet that explains why she likes soccer so much! She was asked to play in a soccer game with the little stinkers and then scored the winning goal, although Stanky’s crew filed protest because she used her nose. She is super sweet and looks for any opportunity to play outside.
If you were not aware, dogs are one of the skunk’s biggest enemies. However, Rooney loves everyone, especially kids. She will roll around on the floor and kiss your feet each time you are introduced to her. She has a kind heart, and the little stinkers have adopted her as their mascot for the orphanage.
Exercise – “Hey, SMELL This!”

Step 2 – The Poster

Write “I SMELL Good!” at the top of the poster board. Tape or glue the hearts on the construction paper wherever you like. In the blank areas of the poster board, fill in with things you would like in your life. You can cut out pictures from magazines, use real pictures, cartoons, draw your own pictures, use words, letters, numbers, etc. Somewhere in those blank spaces you need to have positive emotions you would like to experience. Examples include: Love, Happiness, Joy, Peace, Courage, Gratitude, etc.

Step 3 – Daily Work

Write the days of the week on each of the 7 index cards. Each morning, take out the index card for that day and carry it with you during your day. It does not matter where you go or what you do, just carry it with you all day. Every time a single SWEET SMELLING thought pops up, say “Thank you. Ahhh!” Then make a mark on your index card for that day. You are now tracking your positive or SWEET SMELLING thoughts. I personally love this exercise, and I am sure that you will to. Since what you focus on EXPANDS, having SWEET SMELLING thoughts will bring more SWEET things to you.

Step 4 – Updating Heart #1

Each night, Start by spraying the fragrance can around in the air close to your poster board. Take a nice breath and say “I SMELL GOOD!” then on the heart you labeled “SWEET SMELLLING Thoughts,” write the day and the number of marks you made on your index card for the day. An example would be: Monday – 8, Tuesday – 13, Wednesday – 18, etc . . .

Exercise – “Hey, SMELL This!”

Step 5 – Updating Heart #2

Next, update the heart labeled “What I Attracted” if any things you put in the blank spaces of your poster board have shown up in your life. Spray the the fragrance again, take a nice breath and say “I SMELL GOOD!” For example, if you put a new phone in the blank space of your poster board and you got one today, then draw an arrow from the heart to the phone and then either draw another picture in the heart or simply write the word “phone.”

Step 6 – Updating Heart #3

Last, update the heart labeled “SWEET Emotions” if you had any really good feelings during the day. Spray the fragrance one more time, take a nice breath and say “I SMELL GOOD!” Draw an arrow from heart #3 to the SWEET Emotion you had today, and then write the emotion on the heart.

Step 7 – Final Step

After a week of doing this exercise everyday, show your poster to your friends, family members, or anyone you would like to. Before you tell them what you are doing, preface it by saying “I SMELL GOOD!” Then explain your new SWEET SMELLING poster.

Exercise – “Hey, SMELL This!”

This is one of my favorite exercises. My family and I do a version of this exercise on New Years Day every year.

  • 1 poster board
  • 3 full sheets of construction paper (Pick any color you like except red or black.)
  • 7 index cards (or pieces of paper cut to approximately 3″x5″)
  • 1 pen or pencil
  • Tape or glue
  • 1 scented marker
  • 1 can of air freshener (Pick a fragrance that you LOVE or try using Hey, SMELL This!(link)
  • Scissors

Step 1 – The Hearts

The first step of this exercise is to cut out 3 large heart shapes from the 3 pages of construction paper. Each heart will represent a different theme:

  1. Tracking your SWEET SMELLING thoughts
  2. Items you collect that reinforce your SWEET thoughts
  3. Positive SWEET emotions you experience as a result of tracking your SWEET SMELLING thoughts.

Now label the 3 hearts, SWEET SMELLING Thoughts, What I Attracted, SWEET Emotions.

Exercise – Take Out Your STINKING Trash
In your room, make a chart that has a column for each day of the week and put it up on the wall. It should look like this:

  • Get a piece of paper or a small notepad and write the day of the week across the top of the page. Carry it with you all day. It does not matter where you go or what you do, carry it with you. Every time a STINKING thought pops up, say “Thank you for sharing. I am becoming aware of my STINKING thoughts. Thank you.”
  • Take a pencil or pen and put a mark on the paper.
  • Just before going to bed, add the marks up.
  • Write your total at the bottom of the page AND on the chart in your room.

Now the fun part. Click here for an illustrated example of the Take Out Your STINKING Trash Exercise.

  • After entering the total on your chart, take the tally sheet you used that day and rip it into as many small pieces as you have marks for that day. For example, if you had 50 STINKING thoughts that day, tear the paper into exactly 50 pieces.
  • Get a plastic container with a lid and fill it with water.
  • Dump your torn up STINKING thoughts into the water, put the lid on the container and place in your freezer.
  • Each morning, prepare for a new day by getting a clean tally sheet. Then set your frozen container out in the sink to thaw.
  • Continue doing this for 7 days. Tally each day’s negative thoughts, tear up the paper into pieces, put the pieces into the thawed container, and stick it back in the freezer overnight.
  • You will notice as the days pass, your old negative thoughts will begin to really STINK! Know that’s what they do to your life too!
  • On the last night, drain the water and take a big whiff of the STINKING soggy mess. Throw it in the waste bin!
  • Now the final step. TAKE OUT YOUR STINKING TRASH!
