When I was working out at the gym this morning, I was thinking about giving and receiving.  The more I thought bonus4about them the more I understood that they are really one and the same.  Let me explain.  As you give with a kind heart you are rewarded with gifts yourself.  But you do not just have to give “things” to people or even specific deeds.  What I realized this morning is that giving can be just smiling a lot, having positive thoughts or even speaking kindly to others.  When I smile often, I notice that others smile back.  When I have positive thoughts about myself or others, I am rewarded with a positive attitude.  Now that sure makes for a Sa-WEET day!

Keep doing kindness and don’t forget that kind, loving thoughts certainly count!

Love and gratitude,

Bill

upset_faceI realized something yesterday.  When I am in a negative state, a bunch of STINKIN’ stuff comes my happy_face1way.  Well, I guess I didn’t just realize that yesterday.  I did notice, however,  that when I do kind things for others my energy and positivity is boosted significantly.  So how about doing some kindness today?  Try it, you’ll like it!

With peace and gratitude,

Bill

This morning I woke up with the intention of practicing forgiveness each hour of the day as part of my kindness today.  Isn’t it amazing how the universe responds to your intentions?  While eating breakfast I got an email from someone who completely blessed me out.  Then, a few minutes later another negative email on an entirely different topic came in.  Oh well.  I asked for it, I got it!

Today is the launch of a book that I personally recommended.  It is from a fantastic author and he is doing something very kind himself.  Matt Morris launched his book, The Unemployed Millionaire, with the ultimate goal of feeding 100,000 children in Africa.  Now seriously, how cool is that?

Matt is donating 100% of the royalties on this book for this cause.  For each book sold, 5 children in Africa are fed.  This is just so STINKIN’ COOL!  I purchased several copies of it today and suggest you join me by buying at least one yourself.  To check it out, click this link now.  Thank you!

With kindness and forgiveness,

Bill

When I woke up this morning, I was pretty sore from the work done yesterday.  I also didn’t feel my best and found it hard to go out and do kind deeds for others.  I decided to do something kind for myself, take the day off.  So, I spent the day watching football (Go SAINTS! 4-0!) and pretty much doing nothing.  Near the end of the day, I decided I could say some prayers for family and friends.  You see, kindness doesn’t have to be physical act.  A simple kind thought toward someone you love or that challenges you is a kind deed.

With gratitude and peace,

Bill

IMG_1640Today I had decided to mow my neighbor’s front yard as my act of kindness. That was before my son sent me a message that they were going to be working on a new stone patio project. So, I chose to go and help them instead.

After a full day of shoveling, leveling, laying stones, tamping and a bunch more activities, I headed home. When I got there, I noticed immediately that my neighbor had mowed my front yard. Now how cool is that?

With love and gratitude,
Bill

IMG_1636Today I decided to go have lunch by the lake and enjoy the beautful weather. While on my way, I passed a nice sized turtle in the middle of the road. I turned around, put my blinkers on and picked it up moving him well off the road. After I finished eating lunch, I offered to help someone who was picking up wood for a fire later on tonight. Just before leaving, I picked up trash around the site.

After I did these kind deeds, it seemed that my day just got better and better.

With gratitude to everyone doing kind deeds today,
Bill

happy_face1Well, today was a pretty good day for me.  I had the mindset to do kind deeds and felt that it was a productive day.  What I quickly discovered is that when you are looking for kindness to do, a kindness opportunity will present itself.  For example, this morning I was walking up to the club to work out and as I got near the door, I noticed a lady with her hands full coming up from behind me.  Easy opportunity for me to stand there, wait a moment and then open the door for her.  She smiled and appeared very grateful.

Several times today I also did kindness for myself.  I SO wanted a snickers bar in the afternoon but decided to have a piece of fresh fruit instead.  At lunch, I really wanted a coke but ordered water instead.  I made lots of choices like that for myself today.

You don’t have to look very far to do kind deeds.  Don’t forget doing kindness for yourself is just as important as doing kindness for others.

With gratitude and kindness,

Bill

kindnesschallengebannerToday marks the first day of the 90 Days of Kindness Challenge here at idontstink.com.  Feel free to post your comments to this or any posts for the Kindness Challenge.  Now get out there and do kind deeds and let’s see how many kind deeds are logged on the kindness meter for this challenge.

With tons of gratitude and kindness,

Bill

smileBeginning October 1st, we are challenging ourselves to do 90 straight days of kindness for others.  We will be posting a minimum of 3-4 times per week to share with your our experiences and the difference it made in our lives that day.  We encourage you to also take up the challenge.  It is easy and fun while at the same time is a great way to give back to your community, family, friends, and people you don’t know.

Here’s how it works: 1) Make a commitment to do at least one kind deed each day.  2) Create your own kindness meter account (it’s FREE) on idontstink.com.  3) Log into the kindness meter to look for ideas of kindness.  There are 8 tabs of kindness suggestions for you.  They are: Everyday, Environment, Office/School, Community, On the Road, Family, Friends, & Self Kindness. 4) Do your one kind deed (or more if you like).  5) Come back to idontstink.com and login to the kindness meter.  Add your kind deed to your personal meter and watch both yours and the public meter go up.  6) If something touched you while doing the kind deed, go to the latest blog post and tell us your story.  That’s it!

If you are uncomfortable sharing your story on the blog, you can always email me directly at: bill@positract.com

With loads of gratitude and kindness,

Bill

Kindness, the New Stimulus Package

by Bill King

Are you just plain sick of being bombarded by the media with the untold horrors and predictions of our impending doom?  I’ve heard the words “Stimulus Package” so many times it doesn’t even mean anything anymore.

I want to introduce a new kind of stimulus package that doesn’t have a thing to do with the government:  Kindness.  What do you think would happen if everyone practiced being kind for just one day?  I sure as heck know.  The world as we know it would be transformed.

Impossible?  Consider this:  I organized a Kindness Challenge at a local arts and jazz festival a few weeks ago.  My goal was to remind people what happens when we practice being kind.  It’s a feeling most of us have forgotten.  The challenge was to entice 100 people attending the festival to do 100 kind acts within 100 minutes.  The result amazed everyone involved because when all was said and done, more than 130 people did over 400 kind acts in an hour!  To watch a short video covering the event, click here.

The video shows that when we truly give kindness from the heart, BINGO, a new kind of stimulus package is born.

Kindness is contagious.  It starts a ripple effect that has no limits.  Each act of kindness is like dropping a stone into the water.  First, the receiver of the kind act benefits.  That person then gives back a smile, a hug, laughter, or some other positive response.  So the giver also receives.

Then something truly amazing happens.  Any person who simply witnessed the kind act also benefits. In Meaning & Medicine, author Dr Larry Dossey states helping others “can stimulate healthy responses in persons at a distance who may view it only obliquely.”  This witness may then be inspired to do a kind deed too, and the ripple effect could never end.

How can you start a stimulus package in your own world?  3 steps.  First, feel gratitude for all the fine things in your life.  Defy the media and change your perspective.  Choose to see the good, and more of what’s good will start to reveal itself to you.  Second, spend as much time as you can doing the things you love.  If you enjoy sitting on the porch and listening to the wind, spend more time doing it.  If you love to listen to your favorite music, do that more often.  Doesn’t cost a thing!  Third, practice being kind to yourself and others every single day.  Model kindness and inspire others to do the same.

Need a little inspiration to give yourself a kick-start?  Watch this video.  Change your mind; change the world.
